My initial test was with Rick’s loaner SD1, but recently Rick was also kind enough to loan me his SD1M. In going through my initial offset calibration for my various lenses I noticed that the offset variation was much less than with the SD1. On further testing I discovered that setting the offset to the average variation resulted in a fairly accurate focus at all FL from 5’ to infinity, a much better result than with the SD1.

I think it could easily be just that Rick’s SD-1 was an early body and with the SD-1M they have better consistency in the product. Or that Rick’s equipment is sometimes cursed…
Resetting to factory default has historically been the way to drive evil spirits from inanimate objects, thank you for protecting us all from whatever was inhabiting Rick’s camera.
